Christmas:present ideas/what you doing for it?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
First of all wishing you all a happy Christmas if you celebrate it.

This isn't meant to be a deep thread about the meaning of Christmas and how commercialism has removed this.

1. Getting very close to the day now. It's just merely a call for ideas for present buying and activities - I'd like to know what yours are, here are mine - some of which I've used in previous years and this year some I have already arranged/bought:

- Bought things on direct suggestion from person receiving, no surprise for them but at least they get something they want. A little surprise had been added by selecting from a list.
- Magazine subscriptions
- Tickets to a theatre show
- Talking books - on CD or tape
- Books: Biographies, Sport and Film personalities
- Crockery
- Jigsaw puzzles - yes my Mum likes a good puzzle over Christmas
- Accessories e.g. USB mobile phone SIM card phone number reader for back up to PC

When you are all grown in your family it is hard to guess what someone would like when they could get it for themselves anytime. Anyway I think my idea are not really too over the top but nice and meaningful I hope.

What are yours?

2. What are you up to over Christmas?
Mine is going to be low key with the fam this year. Lucky you if you are somewhere far away and hot or beautiful - I did the same one year.

I had 11 girls to buy for this year (I've got a big family). 2 jewellery websites and 1 hour later and I'd done over half my Christmas shopping. Just gotta do the boys now. I'll probably go on one of those blokey websites for most of it. Girls are easy though, you just need to get them something pretty and they'll be happy. With blokes, it has to do something.

For Christmas this year I have bought my mum a digital camera, my dad a watch, my brother a rugby shirt and I ain't telling you the boys :p

Have also bought lots of other little bits and bobs for everyone too.

For Christmas we have my family coming down. I'll be hosting Christmas for the first time and mum, dad and little bro are all coming for the whole festive time. So either I shall become a nervous wreck at how much I have to do. Or I'll just get on with it and never have an empty glass of wine :p

never have an empty glass of wine :p

That's the best part about having xmas at your house! Just tell every1 else what to do, re-fill your glass and sit back and watch the chaos commence :D

I have still not come up with a single idea - as you can see, my imagination is fairly limited. :p

ETA: Not doing anything in particular, having a good time I guess. Pressies opening and hopefully succeeding in an attempt at bringing people together and doing something social. I just don't want to drown in self-pity and depression like I predict -- pity I can't send an sms to one special person. Arg. Why won't the message come through.

Incidentally... when you send an sms to a mobile turned off, will it be rejected? I can't send a message and it's saying that it cannot be sent at this moment of time. Anyone got a good explanation?

well, i have bought all my pressies, and i wont bore you with them all.

but i have bought a watch for the fella, and i have bought my dad LOADS. mum and bf's mum have necklaces, little bro has a radio controlled car, grandad has a flat cap (:D )...the list goes on and on and on...

for christmas, my family deserted me (sob sob) so the boyfriend and his whole family have to endure WEEKS with me. the lucky buggers!

No it will be sent and stored until the other person switches on, then it will be sent to them.

    Could be because:
    - you have run out of money on your pay as you go
    - the signal is weak or non existent
    - your phone is damaged and cannot get a signal
    - you are in a place where there are lots of other people trying to do the same thing - e.g. festivals, new years eve in a large city. Just try later in this case.

I think it's the signal though, but this has never happened before and the bar is quite full. I'm not in a busy area, and I've been systematically and consistently trying for the last few hours. And it's not the money, so the only plausible explanation is probably the phone ...

ETA: strangely enough, I copied the sms, wrote a new one and manually typed in her phone number. After I sent it, nothing came up, but I can't see the message in the outbox (sent messages). :chin: Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I have to do secret santa for a girl at work, I don't really know her.

It's a £5 limit. She's about 18/19, very pretty, sometimes models, but I don't know her! Any idea what I can get her?

A Boots or Supadrug voucher (other drugstores are available). She obviously cares and looks after herself - this will go down very well I feel.

Are you trying to win her favour? If you are a guy then PussyKatty is a surprising nick but you don't have to be a guy to admire...

If you do have a romantic interest in her whatever your gender then you could accompany the voucher with a menu for a smart local restaurant, with the line: "if you see anything you like let me know..."
