Yes, today you get to give thanks that in 1640 you had gunpowder and diseased blankets to use against the Native People who lived there so you could steal their land and spend the next 200 years marginalizing them and forcing them to live on impoverished reservations and almost nearly wiping out their cultures. :D

....but I'm sure the turkey, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn pudding, pumpkin pie, and cranberry sauce is fucking delicious !!! :yippe:

    Oh wow, I've always wondered when Thanksgiving was! (but not enough to look it up, obviously. I'm too lazy). But ohhhhh Turkey......... :heart: Lucky lot.

    OK, I need presents for 6 children, one husband, one MIL, Mum and Dad, three brothers, a sister and my three best friends. And enough food and drink to feed them all (you'll need two trolleys, probably two trips.)

    Yep, 4th Thursday in November - which means you generally get the 4th Friday in November to recover from eating all that rich food! The date has only been set since Lincoln's days, and the holiday wasn't celebrated on an annual basis until the early 19th century.

    I'm half-American, so I've had my fair share of Thanksgiving dinners with the whole family. Many of my friends think of it as their favorite holiday by far - despite its roots, it's not regarded as an overtly religious holiday, you don't have to worry about buying gifts, it stems the onslaught of xmas paraphenalia in the shops (well, a little bit), and you get to tuck into three types of pie for dessert. :)

    Fair point about the pillage against native americans. But it's been done for a bit longer than 200 years, unfortunately...

    Anyway, happy thanksgiving!

    Pie (as in real desert pie, not that weird stuff you have) especially pumpkin with whipped cream and hot apple and stuffing is by far the best. And then turkey sandwiches on the leftover buns for supper.

    I condone any killing act that means I can eat lots with no regrets and watch lots of football, and most of all, have a day off work.
