Do you require a passport to travel to Ireland for a holiday?

The visit would include N.Ireland & the Republic:)

As I undertand it. No for Northern Ireland (may be demanded by Ferry/Airlines) Yes for Southern Ireland.

I use my student card for ID on easyjet flights between Scotland and Northern Ireland all the time. And there are no passport checks on the Irish border. So basically you can get into Ireland with a student card.

It will depend on a few things,

How are you getting there? Are you going by boat/flying/swimming? :p

If you are flying it will depend on the airline that you fly with because sometimes even for domestic flights a passport is required. You would be well advised to check it out with the company you are flying/sailing with as you don't want to end up getting turned away before you've even started!
