I downloaded the full ver of 2142 just to see if it'd run on my PC. Alas, it runs like absoloute cack. I think you need at least 2gb ram to get it running smoothly.

    Sucks :-(

i think battlefield is dying because every single bloody game is released with so many bugs 1.0 is unplayable. Every time!

1942 - netcoding was so bad that pings of 999 was incredibly frequent. Infact, I was playing on a 2 man server and we both had pings of 300. Ridiculous!

vietnam - too many to list here, but problems with balancing (US basically had superweapons i.e. the M60 which was more accurate than a sniper rifle and could take out anything, and you could have an rpg in your kit along with it making you the uber trooper), more netcoding bugs and problems with a lot of the basic coding that let to weird things happening

battlefield 2 - netcoding was still a problem and on the demo 16 man servers were difficult to play on, but it wasnt too bad - but then again abttlefield 2 is just a reskinned battlefield vietnam I think, with a few extras such as commander tools implemented. This was unbalanced again though, as if you got 6 people together in a squad, put them in a blackhawk, had some as medics (constant healing to everyone in the chopper), some as mechanics (who coudl repair), some as support (to rearm) and then just fly and shoot. The chaingun things suffered the same problems as vietnams m60 - incredibly high rate of fire, incredibly high accuracy, incredibly high damage (could take out APCs with them quite easily).

It took 3/4 rpgs to take a blackhawk down, a similar amount of tank shells, so you were pretty invulnerable as you could repair faster than take damage, so you hover over the flag, capture the flag = 2 pts for flag capture + 1 pt for being in the same vehicle as someone who captured the flag and you kept doing that till your score was ridiculously high.

Of course, some people overcame it by getting the crappy MEC transport (is it a hind?) and attatching C4 to the bottom of it (and lots of c4), flying over one of these uber-blackhawk-tanks and then switching to a passenger position and blowing everything to kingdom come. 12 points in one go, or 18 if they were in the middle of flag capture.

EA typically uses it's customers as it's Beta testers, which is off IMO.

Yeah EA are twats and should never of released BF2 when they did. They released BF2 expansions before they even got BF2 fixed.. it will never be fixed properly and EA are just throwing out addons for the money. I don't think it's gonna just yet though there is still a lot of server which are packed.

I'd give it another 12 months

    BF:2 I can't even PLAY online anymore.

I downloaded the full 1.4 patch and have uninstalled the game and reinstalled and redownloaded the patch twice from different sites including EA's official site.

And when I run it it will only patch to version 1.12.

    Gay.

I haven't tried 1.4 yet *nervous* but it worked with 1.3x or whatever.

I think it's high time games companies stopped mass producing shit, to be blunt. Of course costs escalate but the games industry makes more money than hollywood, it's not an excuse to put out products that are substandard. We pay £35 a game (well, £27 something off Amazon.co.uk IIRC :p) because we believe the game will be as advertised. Minor bugs will slip through but releasing unplayable games is just a joke.

Steam for example, has never, ever worked on my computer, even to this day, even though it's been patched. I have to press ctrl-alt-delete and change the properties of steam.exe process to 'lowest priority' otherwise it will crash my computer.

Rome: Total War was crappy to start with too, and there are still stupid bugs in it - wardogs are uber units who can kill anything, and will respawn to full health after 1 turn. Velites who are on foot with javelins - 130 upkeep per turn. Light auxilia who are the same dudes on horses - 120 upkeep per turn + fast movement + can harass fleeing enemies.

I could rant all day, but this is about battlefield 2142. I might get it, but from what I've seen it just looks like a mod of BF2 (I thought it was, at first).

You should have a look on the EA UK forums for any advice about the patch, it works fine for me apart from some of those bugs.

    For god's SAKE.

Downloaded Medieval II: Total War Demo.

    Guess what?

Yea, it doesn't work on AMD processors. And it's supposed to be a demo based on the final game, according to press releases, but they've now changed it to:

Please be aware, this software is a demo and is not representative of
the final product, product features are subject to change and
revision without notice. The software wherein is incomplete and is
provided with no warranty of any kind.

Surely, at this late in the game, they would realise that it didn't work on AMD processors?? That's got to be well over 50% of the gaming market I would have thought. 'tards.

shyboy the helicopter situation you described isnt really a common occurance in battlefield and i wouldnt consider it being one of the things that out balances the game .. a blackhawk is easy to take down, even with the engineers

as for bf2142.. ive only tried the demo and wasnt too impressed.. runs like shite too .. its more of the same and you couldnt really justify spending 30 odd quid on it.. i dont think ill be buying it any time soon anyway

Pre patch it had a lot more armour and was a very common occurence (maybe I was just unlucky with the servers I chose...), they've changed it now though, and they are a lot easier to take down now. You can get in a jeep and use the machine gun lol :-).
