back problem

Ok, this is a slightly random question I suppose. But since about the age of 13 I've always noticed that one of my hips sticks out more than the other. I'm 17 now, and as I've gotten older it's become more prominant, but I never thought anything of it.

Then my mum saw me getting changed the other day and noticed and got all concerned and took me to the doctors. The doctor said that my spine seemed to be bent at the bottom :( and I have to go the hospital on Friday to have some x-rays done to see how bad the damage is :nervous:

Has anyone ever had something similar to this before? What can they do really though when it's your spine, they can't exactly do any kind of surgery can they?

1st of all *hugs* that sucks!
secondly, have a read of this clicky, its my mates blog about his life with curved spine - quite insightful.
Only advice i can offer is try not to worry too much, all you can do is wait until you've been seen by a doctor then they will decide where to take it from there. You might not even need anything doing, then again you might. hard to say until you've been properly assessed.
Good luck anyway and keep us posted!

You know, it might not even be a spinal thing. Plenty of misalignment is muscular over-tension. So try not to worry too much.

no not really. No one notices it tbh until I point it out. It's just one hip sticks out a bit more than the other. That's why I thought it was no big deal. It just makes me a bit self-concious in a bikini!

I had my x-rays Friday, so got to contact doctor in about a week and see what he thinks.

    Cheers for the comments

Ive got a curvage of the spine- called scholiosis.

I also have one hip sticking out more than the other, like you described!! Ive known about mine since i was about 13/14 because i was suffering alot of back pain.

Dont worry about it. See what the doctor says first. Its not uncommon.

ok, update on an old thread!

I went to the doctors and had x-rays and things, and they've worked out that yes I have scholiosis too :(

I have to go to our local hospital at the end of next month to talk to a specialist about it and then he will take it from there.

Blah, have you had many problems with it? Other than just one hip sticking out more than the other

    I'm not a happy chappie :(

I did suffer quite a bit of back pain, but to be honest it wasnt much. It depends how acute the scholiosis is. Judging by the fact you didnt think anything was wrong, i doubt you will get many problems with it. Having one hip sticking out further than the other has not adversly affected my life in any way! If your still growing then it can get worse, but your 17 and i doubt it will get worse, it can get worse if you have bad posture too, but bad posture fucks up anyones back anyway. I had to have some physio with mine, but to be honest NHS physio i have found to be completely crap anyway and i noticed no difference in pain levels.
But you'll find out from the specialist anyway. I cant really tell you much more, as my back is pretty much fucked anyway, i was born with two of my lower vertebrae fused together, and i had scholiosis diagnosed when i was about 13, and last year i was in a car accident which fractured my spine and twisted a few discs, so obviously i cant judge very well but before the accident i was leading a pretty much normal life and was not restricted in what i did, unlike now :crying:
Hope your appointment goes well :) try not to worry about it, your scholiosis sounds about the same severity as mine (pre-car accident), and an operation is not needed unless its acute. And if your having no pain, then :thumb:
