Is the "Naughties" an official word?
As from 2010 on, I'd think it's the "Tens" or something.

All the other ones had normal names, why can't they call it the 2000's, like the 1900's. Or the 1800's. Or the 1700's.

I hope the 2010-2019 will be called the 2010's, you know, like the 1910's and the 1810's and so forth...

Not really, for me at lest. If your taking about something that happened in 1809 you say, 1800's, or turn of the specified century, if you were talking about something that happened in 1837, you would say in the 1830's, talking about the century in general, you would say in the 19th century, early/mid/late 19th depending on how specific or general you want to be. I've taken way too many history classes over the years and thats how I/we have always referred to years and dates in history. Though as I've learned on here language differes alot more than one would expect, but thats just how I know it as, what you know it as, I guess, is something different. :)

its a bit different when you are talking about past dates in my opinion. You have to say it in full for it to make sense.

what were talking about here are shortened named for a decade. other surely it would just be the "twenty tens" for dates 2010-2019.

I too am depressed and curious about what this century/ next decade will be called.. I loved how long and meaningful the last century was, we were in 'Nineteen ninety nine'.. now i fear, as we move on in a world dominated by technology and advances that will make it easier to do everything and therefore make us lazy, that the english language will also fade( already we witness words such as 'innit' which would puzzle our perfectly-spoken 16th century ancestors) and 2010 will be referred to as 'TWENTY TEN', or later 'TWO ZERO ONE ZERO', in a sort of robot dalek voice.. i picture us walking robotically with our eyes wide and unblinking with micro chips in our heads as we repeat these numbers back to us..
getting carried away now with my fear of the future
    will stop now.

If it makes you feel any better, I have an an incredible urge to drive nails into the skull of anyone who uses 'innit' in a non ironic manner. Then drag them behind a car. As it does 90 on the motorway.
