format PC

Simple question requiring simple answer.............yes, dont be too techy when replying cos you will lose me :lol:

To format PC do I need a disk to wipe everything or should I be allowed to do it on start up by pressing a certain key ?

    You need the media your operating system ships on. When booting off the CD, it will give you the option of formatting the hard drive prior to installation. :)

    If you're installing Windows then you'll have the option of formatting in the text part of the installation.

    You'll need the Windows (or some other OS) CD. Pressing a key at startup won't normally work. However, some manufacturers (such as Dell) have the option of restoring your computer with a combination keypress at startup.

    If your PC is new have a look at the documentation. Otherwise formatting from the Windows CD is the easiest way.
