Anyone else think that this is a very good idea and should be encouraged on a lot more programmes?

Unless they do it for the fucking Welsh, the Geordies and the Scousers.
I don't see why - some Glasweigen accents on tv are completely unintelligible.
:yeees:
:grump:
So are some Welsh, Geordie and Scouser accents.
My God, stupid people annoy me.
That's North Wales though.
But there seem to be far more Scottish accents and programmes on tv.
Are you trying to start a fight btw?
Are you trying to change the subject?
Just giving my opinion. Nothing against the Scots as people.
So?
Can't understand them? Aww, have a cookie.
Here's the solution. Don't fucking watch them, Dingus.
Wow, I thought us grown-ups didn't lower ourselves to that level.
And it looks like that's going to be one massive packet of cookies if everyone who couldn't understand the accent was to have one - seeing as the BBC considered it enough of an issue to provide subtitles.
You can't have it on BBC1 thoughout England and Wales and people not understanding it.
Erm...they already HAVE done it :chin:
Dunno, I'm from that exact area and I speak like that when I'm at home, and I'm not offended.
If I said "Awa an bile yer heid!" or "Fit like iday, min?", then hardly anybody would understand me.
I've apparently got a "hillbilly" accent though
If the BBC want the audience, then it should be accessible.
We should be able to have a choice of subtitles for all programs.
No actually, i think they did voice overs
Putting subtitles on for EVERYONE is assuming that the audience are pretty closeted and yeah..would be pretty offensive to Scottish folk.
Yup.
I don't have a particularly strong accent but I do use a lot of slang words and if you're not paying complete attention it can seem like a blizzard of unintelligible noise.
Getae fuck ya bastart.
I think that mostly the scots are made into a minority when it comes to being subtitled. I remember once there was a call to subtitle Rab C Nesbit. I see no harm in it as long as it doesn't happen for every scottish programme and it would be nice to have it for other programmes (like welsh/geordie) just to be fair.
Although i have a knack for understanding accents Except from that gruff irish
