I don't like torrent personally, don't like limewire and bearshare either... Shareaza aint too bad imo... It connect to Gnutella1, Gnutella2 and eDonkey... But the best is usenet downloads imo... Fast as fuck and if some files are broken just download the files to fix the archives...

for me torrents are the 2nd best thing to having access to the distros, which i dont anymore, so torrents all the way for me.

unless of course im just looking for a specific song, then usually use limewire.

it all depends on where you get your torrents from, new stuff from public trackers goes notoriously slow because people have no incentive to seed after they've downloaded. get a membership to a private torrent site with 40,000+ members and you're sorted :)

bit torrent rox. I get movies top notch quaity before they're out download at 220Kb/s (as fast as my connection can go). games, software, music,tv shows are also released very speedily. You just gota know the right sites and make a good assesment of the quality of the file before you download it.

I download from the newsgroups. I average between 1500 and 2000kbps on my cable connection. Because only a minimal amount of tossers use the newsgroups, the content tends to be of superb quality - and if it isn't, then it says so.

I've always found bittorrent to be a nice idea, but rather poor in the real-world.

Yeah depends. Some things, if they're new, can download at 50k+ which is fast for me. Especially new South Parks and some music but otherwise it can be exceptionally slow. If it's just individual songs I'm after or hard-to-find stuff, I use DC++

DC++ for me too, once your a member on a good hub then you can get some extremely hard to find tunes, they also have specialist hubs for certain genres of music which is cool.

No, I dont use tor. proxying downloads through a third party would cripple the speeds i'd be able to maintain. I do however run peerguardian, a regularly updated list of suspect IP addresses. The site i use hasn't accepted a signup in about 6 months though, and i always max out my connection @ 800k/s

Just to answer your question. No. It's not rubbish. It's actually quite good for new stuff.

:eek2: It is considered somewhat rude to be sending large amounts of traffic over Tor.

You should direct your attention to Usenet which for downloading has so far attracted less "attention" from the big bad people like RIAA, MPAA and BMI.
