Help re laptop power adapter

  I have picked one up off ebay for £22 so a little better.

  You can go to maplin or any other electronics shop and get a multiple type power converter with loads of end bits to fit different things for a lot less cash than that.
  
  All that matters is the voltage and the polarity, you can find that out from the information on the laptop near where the power goes in. Polarity is indicated by the little circles with a + symbol and a - symbole with a dot in-between. Just make sure you have the same symbols on any supply you buy.
  
  To be honest the biggest problem with a non-Toshy replacement power supply would be getting one that supplies the right specs, as they may be uncommon on purpose.
  
  If you don't understand, take the power thing to maplin and ask if they have something that could replace it.
  
  Anyway, none of that should matter because, if it's in warranty, they have a duty to replace it.

  Just be glad it was the plug on the power pack, and not the socket on the laptop

  So, which bit failed? If the PSU itself died, and it isn't a broken cable or plug, then it is NOT wear and tear - it's a faulty component, and should be covered by your warranty.
  
  Be firm with Toshiba - a battery is wear and tear, as it'll only last for a given number of charge cycles. But a power adapter should last forever - I have adapters that have been used and unplugged daily for a long, long time. And, I have electronics here that have been in regular use for many years(20-odd) and they've never been touched.
  
  So long as the PSU itself isn't battered - scratched, cracked, soaked in vodka... then you will almost certainly be entitled to a repair or replacement.

  Theres a power cable the plugs into the adapter, its not the power cable bit its the adapter bit.

  I must admit that "wear and tear" sounds like one of their throwaway lines to me. If it's still under a year old then the bloody thing should be made to stand up to a year's worth of use.
