pay confusion

i work in a hotel waitressin. and im 19.

they pay me over 5 pounds, when the rate for the other people under 21 is 4.50. i only work holidays. do you think they pay me more cos im only temporary staff? or are they making a mistake?

if i tell them and they are and they are will they make me pay some back?

    its not a problem your being paid over min wage. Its a legal requirment that they pay you over £4.50 so dont worry about it

    £4.50 an hour is sod all. hold on to your extra pennies!

    if they cotton on, claim you didn't realise.

    Yeah wouldn't go round telling everyone you get more than them. It'd be like a proper mutiny or whatever its called.

    I'd say technically they can pay you whatever they like.

    it's not against the law you pay you more than the minimum wage! more employers should do it really.

    the minimum wage is pretty much what it says - minimum. Its the least ammount you should be paid not the actual amount. I have never worked for a job that has paid minimum wage. I worked in a bar and got paid £5ph when i was 16
