Moles

I have either very large freckles or moles scattered across my arm. I find them very unattractive. Does anyone else have them? Any idea what they're caused by? Can I get rid of them without cutting them off? Thanks in advance!

Sun spots possibly? Is it an area that is touched by sun alot? Have they always been there? Maybe birth marks?

TBH, I once had a mole removed, its easier than going to the dentist. And no scars. I don't know why you don't want them cut off, but just incase it was becasue it would be painful or something, not at all.

I have birth marks on my wrist and freckles on my shoulders from sun. Then the odd one here and there. Nothing too major.

I don't care about cutting them off, I just wanted to know if there were any other options before cutting them. I want to rid myself of 5 of the little demons, the rest are small, so they can stay.

They probably are sunspots. But they still need to go.

I've googled mole removers, but they are all $50-$120 and your probably not in america anyways. But its cheaper to get them removed via the Dr. and your insurance if you are anyways.

Heres some links though just in case...

There was one I saw earlier that I cant found now that was a diy one that involved a pummice stone and hydrogen peroxide, but that seemed not right.

Do not cut them off yourself! You have to have them surgically removed, but you may have to pay as it's cosmetic surgery. I have some horrible moles, some of which I have to keep an eye on for them changing etc (maybe pre-cancerous) and I went to have one removed which the consultants were worried about but the surgeon said that it would leave a big scar and because of where it is it would be difficult to remove (on the side of my breast). I would say that the moles look better than a scar. Most people have moles so I don't think you should be worried.

I've got a HUGE (well, about the size of my thumb print) mole on my leg. It's been there ever since I can remember. It's a bit of an arse when I'm shaving my legs, but that's all.

I think I'm meant to watch if it grows...

I think so yes. Would imagine it's either freeze or laser off.

I have loads of moles, i don't quite see the problem to be fair? The only thing that i worry about is with regard to the health risks but as long as i keep an eye on them and don't overdo the sun it's fine.

When I was going to have one removed on the NHS they were going to cut it out - saw them get all the knives and scaples ready - was horrid

Now this got me thinking. Do people have problems with moles, as in find them unattractive? :chin: I suppose i've never thought of it in that context but this topics made me wonder whether some people do find them unattractive. I guess i've got so used to mine that i never really notice if other people have them.

I don't think people find them unattractive, they are just part of who we are. Having a scar from having one removed would be less attractive I am sure.

My girlfriend has a mole on her back and I find it extremely sexy even though she swears she's going to get rid of it one of these days. I think, if it's not impeding your health, you should learn to love it because chances are other people do. :)

Sticky outy moles get me. I don't know why, I just can't stand them. I have one by my armpit that I have convinced myself is raised up a bit and I can't stop thinking about it!
Hairy moles are unattractive (in my opinion at least) :p

Haha, well hers is a "Sticky outy" mole and I still feel the same way. I don't know, how do you guys feel about shaving/waxing moles. (Possibly plucking depending on the surface area) :P

One of my little moles is on my knee and doesn't really stick out, maybe just raised a little, and when I shave my legs I have to be really careful around it because I have taken the top off it before, then it went black and really hard, thankfully that dropped off and is now back to normal but you do have to be careful with moles.

Moles which are completely flat are fine to shave over though as it is just colour pigment in the skin.

Ive got quite a lot of moles, two of them..well actually 3 of them on my face and to be honest I hate them! Theyre all raised too, one of them is right in the middle of my cheek! I used to actually get bullied about them in school, how cruel are kids hey! Went to the doctors about getting them removed and to be honest he wasnt very helpful, said if I wanted to get them removed Id have to pay as theyre not the cancerous type so Id be getting them removed for cosmetic reasons!..not too sure how much it costs to get them done privately, could be up to 1000pounds! I aint got money like that too spare so it looks like Im gonna have to put up with them for the time being :(

Not being funny but you shouldnt moan about having moles especially as theyre not on your face!!

i had one removed from my leg, and they cut it out, along with a chunk of leg :grump:

although it was a suspicious one, so maybe the procedure is different from if you're having them removed for purely cosmetic reasons?

When does a mole turn from a normal mole into a suspicious mole? I've got two on my neck that I'm supposed to watch.

if it changes shape or colour or starts itching, scabbing over or bleeding, you'll want to have it checked out.

I had one that bled, became redder and bigger, and another that got bigger and redder, and quite a few sore and itchy ones so I saw the doctor about them, then got referred to specialist clinic at a hospital, saw a consultant, had pictures taken and measurements done, then had to go back about 4 months later to compare them to the photos and measurements taken. One had changed a bit more and so was booked into surgery to have it removed. Went to my appointment really scared and worried as I am such a wimp with needles, knives, hospitals etc, got taken into theatre, they got the knives ready, surgeon came in, looked at the mole, then said that he didn't want to remove it because it looked ok, and that it would be difficult to remove and leave a big scar as it's on the side of my breast, so he sent me home again. It still hurts and itches and so do some of the others, and one on my back regularly becomes redder and it has becoem more sticky out than it used to be, but the surgeon reckons that they are ok.

So, what I am trying to say is that if you notice that a mole changes in anyway, don't panic straight away thinking that you have cancer. Most moles that change and are removed as they are suspicious are pre-cancerous so it isn't something to really really worry about as I have learnt since I was first referred and worried like crazy thinking that I had cancer.
