    Brief history of Internet:

    Created by scientists in universities who need to share research information fast.

    1969 "Apernet" becomes active- 4 universities share 1 computer

    1970's Apernet expands- 23 US universities sharing 1 computer

    1972 First e-mail technology available

    1973 Apernet goes international... University College London join (my uni!)

    Next comes "JANET" (Joint Academic NETwork)

    1980s home PC is developed

    mid-1980s schools start getting computers

    late 1980's worms, viruses, hackers get going

    1990s Aparnet is gone

    1992 Commercial restrictions lifted

    Rate of growth becomes huge.

    First product you could buy on line was a pizza (from pizza hut!)

    Today, 700, 000, 000 people use the internet worldwide. (8 Billion people wordwide do not use the internet).
