Why is love so painful?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I've only been with my partner for 12 weeks and I'm in love. It can happen quickly for some like me or it can take months for others.

I'm finding love really hard to cope with. I cry a lot when I'm not with my partner and I really miss him when I'm not with him. It's really tough. Does it get better eventually?

That's what being in love is all about unfortunatly... you love him so much it hurts when he is not there but keep in mind you are together and when he is away it is just for a while and he come back to you...

Part of being in a successful relationship is being able to be apart... seeing different friends, socialising, different hobbies, its important that you both have a separate life within the relationship. so that when you do spend time together its really valuable :)

    Definately.

But we have decided to go to university together. He cancelled all of his offers and applied to UCAS extra so he could go to university with me. He applied to a university that I had chosen but wasn't my favourite. I told him not to do this but he did. In away I'm glad he did because I'll miss him but I hope we don't conflict with each other. Also with it not being my first choice university I hope it goes well.

yeah Thats totally normal. its part of the bonding process and it can be painful to be apart. You will find it easier probably as time goes on and you become more relaxed and confident about your love for each other.
I dont think 12 weeks is that quick, although depends how much you see each other.
If you were seeing each other loads and loads for 12 weeks, you should at least be able to feel love growing, if not be completely head over heels. Maybe thats just me though, im sure everyone is different.

Yeah, sounds normal to me. Love hurts. Makes me wonder why I even want to be in a relationship sometimes.

We see each other virtually every day. He lives around 15 miles away from me but thanks to his car, our relationship has been able to succeed. Also thanks to the bus service which operates to his town which means I'm able to go down and see him as well.

Yep. And when we're not in a relationship we want to be in one. It's a catch 22 situation.
I think being in love is better since someone does actually care for you.

I would've thought if you were seeing each other every day or every couple of days then it would've been great. With my ex it was if I didn't see her for like a week that I'd find myself thinking about her all the time, find it hard to concentrate on other things, basically drive myself insane. And anything over a week ... argh!
