Word meanings you have got wrong

Anyone believed a word means something else?
For years I believed Vivid mean Vague.
And I used to think Impish meant I looked like an elf!

When I was about ... fifteen I didn't know what lucrative meant, until someone told me. I'd been using it for ages, thinking I was cool :o

I've probably done it loads of times, but this made me remember - a few weeks ago my boyfriend was using loads of new words.

I recognised a ew, and I must of looked a bit lost, because he repeated himself.

My answer: "OK, fine, if you really think the dog is voluptuous then fair enough."

Well, I used to think "sympathetic" meant "likeable" and "pathetic" meant "passive", because that's what they mean in greek.

I don't think lacking in education or knowledge means you're stupid. To me intelligence is an ability to absorb and use information presented to them in an effective way, not to simply know stuff.
Yup, just looked on that dictionary site and the first definition is 'The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge'.

Anyway, back to the original point, I have a norwegian friend who is apparently having a leaving work 'due' soon... I guess that's another one she's only heard and not seen written down...
