Ambiguous names

BillieTheBotBillieTheBot Posts: 8,721 Bot
I'm in the process of applying for a job and the point of contact is someone called "Daniell". I don't want to insult them, so are they male or female? :chin:

I could always go with Dear Sir/Madam, but I hate doing that unless I have to.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

    Yeah, I ended up calling them as I couldn't make a decision and if someone addressed a job application to me as "Mr" I'd be less inclined to offer them an interview.

    Felt like a bit of a twit - but nevermind - and it's a she, as it happens :p

    if i had an ambiguous name i'd much rather people asked which it was than assume one way or the other, so i reckon you did right :thumb:

    :lol::lol::lol:

    Eww.

    Cheers kaff, yeah it definitely was the right thing to do... as if I hadn't done it I think I'd probably have veered toward thinking it was a bloke. That'd be egg on my face, big-style... and very little chance of getting a job from her, haha.

    Ugh, I had a situation like that when I worked at WHSmith... A woman (as I later discovered) came into order a book. I really couldn't tell whether she was male or female. When you ordered a book, you had to put whether they were a Mr, Miss, Mrs etc... thought I'd ask her first name to try and determine but it turned out to be something really ambiguous like Sam or something :yeees: Can't remember how I found out in the end :chin:

    I hate it when that happens. On my tour today I was expecting someone called Kerry, who I presumed to be female, and this bloke turned up and said they were there for the tour I told them they should have phoned in advance to book on the tour, not just turn up. This chap was actually called Kerry :o

    Way to embarrass myself at work, and really nor impress the prospective students :yeees:
