Cooking Takes Ages

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I just cooked what turned out to be a really good roast, had potatoes, veg, gravy, etc but it took me like 1.5 hours in total and the entire meal was eaten in 20 minutes..

Don't it seem such an effort sometimes to go to all that hassle and then have to wash up as well for something that can be consumed so quickly!! :chin:

Roasts are worth the time they take to cook though!

I would hate to make a roast myself. To be honest, I don't think I have got the patience.

No roast could ever beat my Mum's anyway :D

I cooked spaghetti bolegnese in 15 mins tonight. It was yummy :yum:

Gahhhh. This is me though. I'm hardly a good cook and despite the fact I'm a student, I really don't have time to spend all day in the kitchen!

cooking might take ages sometimes but its always worth it.
you know whats in your food that way too, and home cooked food ALWAYS tastes better than the prepared crap you'd buy in the supermarket.

me and the missus are into cooking.
the same meal never tastes the same ...unlike industrial food.
there is some very tasty industrial food to be had but you know it will taste the same everytime.
home cooking is art ...industrial food is copymachine.

Cooking = cheaper. I do also prefer having my meals cooked/cooking my meals anyway because they do taste much better. And aren't takeways 'convient' foods and contain loads of additives and other rubbish?

    Is cooking yourself always cheaper?

gotta take into account the gas / electric bill as well in cooking from scratch as well as all the time.

Store bought food can be as good as the manufacturers wanna make it.

I tried a lot of food samples a few weeks ago at the NEC at a food show and two manufacturers can make the same product in totally different ways.

I tried some meals you can make i less then 70 seconds in a microwave and some weren't bad at all. And mst better then what you get at most greasy takeaway places.

M&S food is usually far beyound what Tesco's, Asda, etc do.

If you have a naturally gifted cook in the home then it's different story though - my aunt is an excellent cook and eating at her house is a pleasure but it's also very time consuming for her - but these days cooking (good) is a lost art - although the English as a nation haven't really been known for their cooking skills through history.

Probably not. But it depends on what you cook and how long it takes.

Sure it is! Not only you don't need to buy any food, you're also dead afterwards so you'll never again spend a penny! :thumb:

You don't have to do that though. You prepare your stuff and put it in the oven. Most of the time is cooking time, you don't have to be there watching it.

You could also cook stuff that you know will takes just before you go to bed - this means that you won't have to wait around for your food to cook.
