  To me the term "player" also implies that a guy is smooth, or slick. There's got to be some sort of charisma, otherwise, how could he pull it off?
  
  Basically it would be someone who strings girls along and uses them all. Minus, as was already said, emotional attachment or any appreciation of anyone but themselves.

  A player, where i come from, is a guy who is with more than one girl at a time, without them knowing...hence he is playing them, the game being not to get caught.
