When you have kids...

Will you dress your little girl up in frilly pink dresses and give her dollies to play with....
Will you dress your boy in blue and give him cars and trucks?

I'm just interested.... :-)
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

My mum dressed me up in frilly pink dresses and I played with barbie and Sindy when i was a kid...never did me any harm

Ill dress my little girl in dresses and my boy in trousers etc...They can play with whatever toys they want. The fact that most boys will prefer to play with toy soldiers and guns will come through and ill be buying action man again

    What about you KrazedKT?

Judging by the picture you posted of yourself in anything goes, that is debatable.

As for how would I dress my children... I really don't know. I'll let the wife decide.

I think if I had a boy and a girl I'd dress them both the same for practicality. Ie in trousers or Dungers. I can't stand small girls in frilly dresses (short ones) there's somethinf very odd about it. Being a kid is all about the rough and tumble, climbing things, getting dirty and a dress isn't really practical for that. I know that as an adult (Female) if I'm doing something that requires a bit of Flexibility (Anything from cycling to gardening) I won't be wearing a skirt!!

I don't like frilly dresses, but only because they look naff. Other than that why not? Girls in skirts, boys in trousers...sounds okay to me.

As for toys, they generally pick things up for themselves. It's funny but when I look at my kids and my nieces and nephews, they have ALL just gone with the stereotype...

Children seem to separate themselves when they play...just look at kids at playschool - even at this age they are aware that they think and act differently...

Well I don't think I will be dressing up my little girl (if I have one) in any frills. I hated dresses and barbies! I have been doing "gender" in my course, had a very erm, interesting lecture that started
"Half of you in this room have vaginas, and half have dicks.." :-)
Gives you an idea of the high quality institution I am at! Seriously though, all this stuff has made me think; they did a study with babies where they dressed uo the girls in blue and boys in pink. When adults came along they would comfort the "girls" and give them dollies, they would be more "rough and tumble-fied"(it's a new word, ok!) and hand them trucks. How much of being a girl/boy comes from the way we are treated?

I think it has more to do with hormones, Testosterone etc than any kind of imposed gender norms as a child.

I remember being taken to toys r us as a kid and my parents took me round the whole place looking for what i wanted. I walked round everything..Dolls and all...I picked out a plastic gun and an action man tank..Little boys like guns, soldiers and aggression..Girls less so.

Yeah but how do you know this wasn't already imposed on you? I personally think it's more of a mixture of nature and nurture.
Liked the pic by the way. I want to put mine up!

Its a good question..I honestly dont know the answer..I think youre probably right about it being a mix of the two.

Personally i think its much more healthy for boys to play with guns and girls with dolls..Confused people are sad people.

Well er I never played with dollies and as far as I know I'm not confused about whether I'm female or not (others may disagree!)

Does the site have a chat room?

    Which reminds me .......

When I was a kid I wanted to be a boy so badly that I had 3 crayons wrapped in a pink ribbon which I used to carry around in my pocket and call my penis.
...If anyone challenged me I'd say 'yes I am a boy .. look I have a penis'
    Think I was about 7 or 8!

See even then I knew it was all about the power of the penis!!
