there is an inquest under way after it was noticed all the contestants on who wants to be a millionaire speak with a nice 'middle england' accent. Are regional stereotypes fair ? would it be fair to say personalities and attitudes differ in regions beyond the north south divide, and if so does this cause regional discrimination ? ever see a brummie news presenter etc ? do we hear that cockney east end accent and lose trust at that point ? if so is it just ?

When it comes to TV and the news then I have no problem with what they do. Its simple, people with strong accents are hard to understand. You take a Somerset farmer and a Geordie, both with heavy accents and it sounds like two different languages. TV is a business, they want as many viewers as possible and everyone in the country can understand the traditional BBC accent.
Stereotypes are stereotypes...Dont put much stock in them no matter what they are about.
But aren't the people who think 'Middle England Accent means Middle class/ non-regional person'
I was born in Birmingham, moved to Ireland then to West Wales then to cardiff.
My accent is pretty Neutral as a result but that doesn't mean I'm not from the regions.

(Although studying in the North east is going to give me a hideous accent combination. I'll probably end up sounding like a bloody Teessider) *contemplates that thought and cries hysterically*
