Bios Beep code

Just put together a new computer for a friend however when i turn it on, the bios emits 1 long 2 second beep then waits 5-6 seconds and repeats. Ive looked it up on google, cant find anything because as far as the manual has told me, its an Award bios and thet can be changed my the manufacturer. ( MSI )
Check the manufacturers site, they dont have anything.
Any one got any ideas?
Its an MSI K8N Neo NForce 3 250 chipset based motherboard.
It must be something bad because the video wont initaliose on the AGP or PCI slot ( there is no onboard )
Help would be much appreciated.

Time to take the RAM back to where you got it.

Perhaps it isn't the correct speed for the board? Or it may be the wrong type...

And you aren't exceeding the maximum amount for each DIMM?

Some otherboards will refuse to recognise cheap RAM, it happens. Thats why I don't buy things like Ebuyer's own Brand or anything... I stick to Corsair :thumb:

Aye, the beeps are indicating a problem with the RAM. Try it in a different slot. If you can adjust the voltage supplied to the DIMM sockets, then try raising it slightly.

Also worth checking the latest flash BIOS revision is being used :).

Check the recommended memory population configuration - it may be that the board only works with the memory installed in a certain fashion.

Sometimes motherboards can be funny about these things :).

right ok, the motherboard can support upto 2gb of ram and its got 2 DIMM slots, so a 1gb stick should work. my motherboard can use the 1gb of ram and its from the same manufacturer.
iv since discovered my 256 is pc2100 but both sticks are rated at 333mhz so the motherboard should accept it.
