That is such a thing! He should be allowed to convert to Christianity if he want to! Death penalty for not wanting to follow Islam! That is mental!

Demonstration of the much touted "democracy" for which thousands, if not tens of thousands, of Afghanis have been slaughtered by our troops (cause their all nasty Islamofascists dontcha know)?

A real testament to the efficacy of "exported" democracy brought to you by the good folks at Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, oh and of course BAe Systems, to name a few of the profiteers involved in the first great PR salesjob of the new (American) century.

Have you seen V is for Vendetta the film Clandestine?
It isnt that good, not at all good infact, but the political elements of how America is left in ruin after get bogged down in a quagmire war in the deserts of the middle east is fascinating.

I would also suggest Syriana- a very insightful story into the workings of the oil industry and Washington complicity...

George Clooney has probably made a few enemies amongst the Republican Party with that...

Pffft... I thought it quite good!

First Monarchist film I've seen in god knows how long.

Either way... yes, Cland is right there. I must say though, I am not supprised.

Ive seen Syriana, not V is for Vendetta though.

As regards the former, after several viewings, I've concluded that it really isnt the sort of honest examination of the depth of corruption inherent to our corporate hegemony-serving foreign policy and militarism that it could have or should have been (certainly to justify the vitriol it has nonetheless generated amongst the average mainstream media-fed pro-militarism bandwagoneer).

The image it paints of an either/or Arab society (i.e. either rich and wholly corrupt/corruptible or poor, oppressed, essentially uneducated and easily swayed to the great shadowy extremist agenda) is a caricature fully in keeping with the false paradigm being spoonfed to our misinformed public by every other mainstream "news" media.

The truest words of indictment against us in the entire film are those uttered by Matt Damon's character when he said "You know what we think, we think a hundred years ago you were all living in the desert cutting each other's heads off and that that's all you'll be in another hundred years" [paraphrased]. It is this inherently colonialist era attitude of western superiority that has underpinned every foreign policy machination and manipulation throughout the region from the days of Britain's imperial hayday to the passing of the mantle to Washington. Nevermind that every rightful self-interested and indigenous grassroots liberal democratic movement in the Middle East was long ago brutally quashed because it didnt subscribe to OUR presumed right to dictate the terms under which THEIR natural resources should be extracted, processed and traded.

Just another watered down hollywood offering that barely scratches the surface of the damage our governments have caused over the past century.

I have not seen Syrianna but i do now!

I must make this clear, although i did enjoy V is for Vendetta, it is a comic book based movie and the message on politics made though very entertaining and insightful must be seen taken in comic book terms. Just incase anyone sees it and comes on here and posts about how crap it is and was a waste of time.

Fair enough that Syriana doesn't do nearly far enough Clan, but at least it's a (small) step in the right direction.

Given our friends in Neo-con America anyway, had Syriana been as straightforward with the truth as you had suggested chances are Clooney & co. would be right now wearing orange jumpsuits at a certain camp in the Caribbean. ;)

You'll always find extremists in every walk of life, be they religious, political and so on...

I have met socialists who condone violence, Christians who hate gay people, individuals who think Nazism is a good idea, people who want all black people out of the country...

Hatred is hatred and not unique to any group of people, nor is it a requirement or necessity for any religion. It is a personal choice.

I have met socialists who condone violence,

Any true socialist will: Revolution is a necessary thing to the true socialist.
