  That gadget sounds like it should do it, but I'd make sure that you will be able to fit it onto your motherboard (IE that there is clear space around the IDE port). Also it might slow your drive down to slower than normal.
  
  You could use this as an excuse to upgrade the motherboard (and processor, and ram, and video card, and case..)

  yeh that'll do the job, however drive performance may suffer slightly, you probably wont notice, if you want to use alot of sata drives you should look at buying a SATA controller, there only about 20 quid
