The people I've always seen do them always have quite thin very nicely toned legs. I've been going to the gym this week (yay lets see if i can keep it up) and was contemplating it. I remember doing the old school stairmasters like 5 or so years ago and they reeked havoc on my knees, but these ones look nice. Are they good cardio? Are they still harsh on people with bad knees?

I'm trying to squeeze the gym into my life, but it is difficult.

reasonably - good range of motion, but a lot of the work comes from how heavy you are - which I doubt is very much given how thin you've said your wrists are.

yes, you take your whole weight onto a bent knee and then straighten it. The cross trainers are also bad apparently.

I find the rowing machines to be good CV, and have low impact on my knees, but they do rely on you performing the exercise correctly.
