Hi, me and my friends are planning a road trip next weekend for my birthday, we want somewhere with good shopping, nice resturants and bars and it needs to somewhere within about an hour and a half of northampton so anywhere in the midlands really.

We've been thinking about nottingham, oxford or cambridge...any recommendations or other suggestions of places?

Nottinghams great, I used to live there for a few years. It has the most bars and clubs per mile so you won't be stuck for places to go. Are you planning on going to a club? if so what kind of thing are you into?

Nottingham is allright, theres a couple of shopping centers and of course the best bit Robin Hood ( ) and there is also an ice rink, so quite few things to do, i do normally buy loads of stuff when i go there as there is a few more shops that Leics, but if you go on a Saturday day time it is just full of chavs and people with attitude problems, that's what i've found the last couple of times anyway :p
If you are going for scenery and quaintness though there are nice looking places.

A lot of places seem the same.

Most high streets in Britain have exactly the same shops.

I grew up in Brum and im now a student in Notts and I say Birmingham is better! The Bullring tops all shopping centres.

Cambridge all the way! Shops, nice bars, beautiful city, easy to get around, punting down the Cam.
