How much did they know?

What were they told?

How much do you think the intelligence services knew, and what could they have done?

It looked to me like case of poor communication. IT seems from the news reports that the major intelligence agencies seem to be competing with each other, instead of working with each other. Not something that should happen when you're trying to defend your nation from terrorism.

I agree they must have fucked up really bad because there is no way they would have let it happen.

I must admit, I was impressed at the intelligence agencies. We received no indication of a threat that they were going to crash in to buildings? No, of course, because Osama bin Laden is in the habit of consulting the CIA before he acts...

I was quite amused by Donald Rumsfeld's answer during the campaign.

" We have information that bin Laden is either dead, or alive in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or elsewhere. We also know that our information is limited, and that we don't know how"

Intelligence services need more co-ordination, instead of rivalry and petty nonsense. I don't think this could have been prevented, however good the intelligence....

Why exactly isn't it some sort of requirement for them to co-operate? Wouldn't make sense to share computer systems or something similar?
I don't know how the organisations work, but surely it would be sensible for them to work together?

    My sentiments entirely.

What the fuck could they have done? Closed all airports, how long for?

Its a bit of a non-story really. So the intelligence agncies had some information which with hindsight add up to form clues. Nowhere though (apparently) were they told that one 11th September, Al Qaeda would hijack four planes, fly two into the WTC, one into the Pentagon and the other towards the White House.

I'd agree though that there is apparently inter service rivalry and that this doesn't help, but that certainly wouldn't have stopped this from happening.

I am "worrying" that perhaps some people can't accept that inpite of all our technology we are still an easy target...and that even being the most powerful nation on earth cannot change that.
