Who's country is in anyway?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Asylum seekers, illegal immigrants, economic migrants and so on. what do you lot think about them or are you not bothered? Do you fear that by the time you leave uni there may be no jobs for you because posts would have been taken up by migrants?

No not at all. Maybe I should be worried that someone gets into university who can't spell or use words correctly.

An illegitimate being, that would mean I was born out of wedlock would it not? No I'm not actually, and if I was would it matter? I am a human being, not a "legitimate" or "illegitimate being".

You cant have much confidence in your own ability if you think some fresh off the boat immigrant is gonna take the kind of job that you would get as a graduate

Doesn't your catch phrase say live and live?

And seeing as England was once deserted, and has been populated over the centuries by one marauding army after another, we're all immigrants. Some just got here later than others.

I assume your tribe came from a lower breed of slime who climbed out a stagnant pond somewhere. No?

As most of these people are from poor backwards countries in the middle eat or Asia, err no I do not. That’s the problem we have no work for these people, not many opportunities for nomadic goat herders.

I'm actually more concerned that by the time I leave uni the country will be overrun with racists who can't accept someone from a different country living in the same town as them.

Unlike the others (who may of course seen your comments before they were edited) I'm not going to flame you.

I'm interested in what has motivated this apparent feeling. Are you worried then?

Do you believe that immigrants are only here for what they can take?

BTW I'm not tax dodging at Uni, I work for a living

There shouldnt be competition of jobs because:
1. asylum seekers usually take up manual work or low skilled jobs such as construction workers, cleaners, etc, unless you want to do these jobs after your uni.
2. economic migrants take up the jobs which the government thinks the country lack the skills, hence they are granted to work here.

I don't think it is fair to blame people, or flame them if they have a genuine reason for disliking immigration, however employment isn't a legitimate one I'm afraid.
The UK does have unemployment, yes. However there are LOTS of jobs waiting for those who are willing to look and willing to move to find work.
Most of the work is menial and low paid. Factory work, construction, hospital porters, restraunt and bar staff, that sort of thing.
However, even though it is menial and low paid, an immigrant can recieve a day's wages in an hour. Although it isn't a lot when living here, many immigrants work as hard as they can and send the hard currency back to relatives in their originating country.

If you got rid of immigrants, a lot of wheel chairs would be unmoved, a lot of floors unswept and a lot of taxis not moving.

I'm not denying there are problems with immigration, the most obvious being that of integration and possiblities of increases in crime, however these are things that can be solved with long term planning, and besides. Immigrants tend to commit less crime because thye know if they are caught they are on the first boat out of here.

Well said Whowhere, the jobs issue is a complete myth, there are not a set number of jobs in the economy, it is constantly expanding......

People forget that immigrants make up less than 4% of teh UK population, there are probably about as many jobs as that waiting to be filled!

The only crimes that i can see connected to these people is the ignorant racists who wrongly percieve them to be recieving special treatment.

That is not true, the last ten years have been good, but the economy can also decline, are you old enough to remember the 70's early 80's

The actual production may decline but the potential output will generally grow therefore in a well run economy immigrants will get jobs....
