My story....quitting smoking

........lets pass on some tips for any of you who wanna quit :D

Ok, so initially I didnt tell anyone I was packing in, it had to be my choice to quit and I was doing it for me....not to please anyone else. So at about 11:45pm on New Years Eve I had my last ciggy, I then put a patch on. It was quite itchy and I also didnt sleep well that night and I have since found out that patches can affect sleep.
Anyways, I gets up New Years day and totally change my routine, instead of sitting with a cuppa I had a drink of water, I did jobs basically anything to take my mind of ciggies. I had breakfast (something I didnt do reguarly before), I had to change my routine cos if I had sat watching telly with a cuppa then id have wanted a fag.
I only wore a patch that first night, I knew in my heart that if I could go that night and the following day then I was almost there. So I have now been over a month without a fag and im feeling quite chuffed with myself. My hubby is still smoking and sometimes I am tempted to light up but i resisted.....cos its my choice now, nobody can tell m what to do I choose not to light up because I dont want a fag. Its wierd now cos I can smell fags on people and my hubby stinks when hes just had a fag. I have been out on a night and that was a testing time, having a drink and socialising is when I would have been at my worst, but i also got through that.
On a couple of occasions i almost lit a fag up but instead of lighting up I went to bed and in a way slept it off cos whislt I was asleep the nicotine wasnt saying I need a fix.........but that was my way of doing without a fag.
I was a bit ratty when I packed in but my hubby just grinned and beared it, I did lose my rag a few times but im back to myself now. Im eating much better now, better than I have for a long time. I actually have three meals a day now and feel better for it. I am starting to get a gut and that does bother me but for the moment I shall just grin and bear it.

So, yeah in a nutshell if you really want to quit then pick a day and make the decision yourself. Dont say you are gonna quit cos someone says they want you to, do it for yourself cos thats the only way you will do it anyhow. Make sure you change your routine and dont put yourself in the situation where you are bored or where you are sitting doing nothing after dinner cos after you have eaten will probs be one of the worst times. If I can do it then anyone can, its not easy so dont think I am saying that cos its frigging hard, specially when your partner is still smoking.

I just wanted to let you know that me being a smoker for a long time on about 30 a day has managed to quit so there is hope for others :D

Good luck, I hope you manage to quit.

My main reason for wanting to quit was because my Mother died from lung cancer last year. I said back then that I would pack in smoking within 6 months, I never quite made it in 6 months it took me about 8 months, but I got there and thats the main thing.

Very well written advice. One day soon I'll probably give up - problem is I enjoy it far too much, but when the day comes I'll keep your advise in the front of my mind :)
