My Cake

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm trying to make a cake and I'm following Delia and she says to use an 8in tin, or a 7in and use less eggs. I've measured my tin and its 7in on the bottom and 8in on the top. So what size is my cake tin?!

Also I have no cooling rack, will my cake go soggy? How can I stop this?

Thanks!

I'd go with 7ins, but dont hold me to it. however i do just think you should go to Tescos and buy one! much easier!

It's different quantities of everything for 7in tin. I decided it was 7in but there didn't seem to be alot of mixture to go round!

Ummm no grill pan, just the wire racks in the oven and they are really manky. Oh we do have a tray for under the grill actually but it only has tiny ridges, and also is quite manky

Make it for 8 inches and then stop putting the mixture in the tin when it fills up

the quantities will be fine and wont make much of a difference with only 1 inch less tin size. The cake wont go soggy either if you've cooked it for the right amount of time/used the right ingredients/quantities and to cool it just leave it in the tin for a bit then transfer to a plate, it will be fine!

Oh dear. Well I just took it out the pan and I think it was an 8in tin cos the cake is tiny! it's risen, and its soft and springy it's just as flat as a pancake! Do'h! My cakes always go wrong :( Thanks anyway!

    Reciepe for fool proof cake.

get 2 large eggs (3 if they are not so big) and weigh them.
Then weigh out the flour, butter and sugar to the same weight as the eggs.
Cream the butter and sugar, then add the eggs and then the flour, and a tiny dash of baking powder.
    Mix-y Mix-y
Pour into two equal sized tins.
Bake for about 30 minutes or untill done depending on oven.
Et Voila, you can't go wrong :thumb:
