She is going to kill me!!!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I got pain over the shade of my mum's beige table lamp. Oh god. It's emulsion and it won't come out. I've scrubbed it with fairy liquid and cleaner and turps.

Help :(

*Edited - It wasn't quite £150 ( I just found out ) but she is really annoyed with me. I don't want to have to pay for it!

Helpful  and its not uncommon to have a lamp that much.

Whats the material on it Jazza? Like is it cloth or not... do you have any nail polish remover?

Emulsion should wipe off with a damp cloth, turps just tends to spread emulsion around. Turn the shade around with the stain to the back ;)

anybody wanna share what emulsion is? i've looked and the best I got was
1 a : a system (as fat in milk) consisting of a liquid dispersed with or without an emulsifier in an immiscible liquid usually in droplets of larger than colloidal size
b : the state of such a system
2 : SUSPENSION 2b(3); especially : a suspension of a sensitive silver salt or a mixture of silver halides in a viscous medium (as a gelatin solution) forming a coating on photographic plates, film, or paper

I thought he ment paint, but now I'm just confused.

Yeah provided you haven't left it to dry you should just be able to wash it off with water. Alternatively if it doesn't move you could try picking it off later after it dries.

    Or buy a new shade.

I've edited my post. It wasn't as much as that but she is really annoyed.

Manda - the material is like thread almost. It's a synthetic fibre anyway and the paint has managed to dry.

Emulsion is paint. It's used for painting walls.

I'd lend you mine, but you're a bit far away :p

Emulsion is water soluble (I think) so it should wash off, but if you've already puts turps and fairy liquid on it might have made it worse.

It almost ended up that way! I told her that I'd buy her a new shade if she could get one to match. She's still annoyed though, I think. But at least the living room's painted...

She shouldn't get your painting if she isn't prepared to face the consequences.

    her fault, not yours.

What sort of person spends that much on a lamp? I know they do, but chuffin nora, what a waste of money.
