The artwork is amazing and the storylines are often weird and wonderful. Spirited Away is one of my fave films. There is also the appeal of something that has quite a cultish following.

What's the difference between Anime and Manga?

Anime : A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex.

    Manga

From what I can get an Anime is animated and a manga is not.

    Akira is great.

For ultimate hilarity, watch some of the mad stuff. E.g: All Purpose Cultrual Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. Hehehe... It's odd and funny. "Land Rover Attack!"

I just think of them as cartoons. No special appeal on it than a cartoon of any place.

They're great :) currently watching Bleach off the internet, it's not been licensed over yet yet so that's ok i think.

Also Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Guyver, Gundam Seed and Neon Genesis Evangelion to get through too, as well as the new Saint Seiya stuff :D

    Spirited Away is beautiful.

I am partial to anime, depending on the quality of the animation and the theme. I like the artwork, it's very pretty and the facial expressions characters can have that because of the style seem so much more emotional than that of a lot of western cartoons.

Anime plots and humour is different to that of western cartoons, plus a few anime studios still use cel animation.

I love Anime, Some of my favourate being ninja scroll, guyver, Ninja scroll and Grace of the fireflies. also My Neighbor Totoro is good, Spirited away and castle in the sky is ok but morre focased on the family type of anime. same with Totoro. it's still good but i prefer the ninja/samurai and sci fi anime.

the artwork is absolutely beautiful and the detail to drawing is the best of any animation i've ever seen.

I have never understood the appeal of manga/anime either, or of japanese film generally for that matter.

Was forced to watch some of it by a friend who demanded i give it a chance. Thought it was shite.

I both like Animie and Manga. Im not really sure why but i guess its "cartoons" for adults sometimes and what not. I like a lot of the series that have really good animation and voice acting. Most Manga i like go along with the animie series that i like.

Princess Mononoke is still one of my favorite films - along with Ghost in the Shell 1st Gig for favorite series and Lone Wolf and Cub for fav manga.

The terms anime and Manga have got confused in the Uk because the first company to really break the UK market with anime (with Akira) was Manga UK, so the term Mange rather than anime stuck here.

There is a lot of shite animé out there, that's impossible to deny, but inbetween there is some really neat stuff to be found. It's quite possible to find something to like, but I don't expect everybody to be interested in it. Just like not everybody likes horror, romance, action, etc...

I quite like the humour in animés. There are also some very cool characters. Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Grave of the Fireflies are some of those that stand out in my mind. I also like the art and atmosphere in Metropolis.

Nope...it really didn't register to be honest.

I remember thinking the animation was bad, and wasn't too sure who was who. Couldn't tell what gender the characters were either.
