Im coming to terms with my sexuality and i feel the next thing i need to do is go to a gay club to i can "pull" a guy. The thing is ive never been to a gay club and ill be going alone as i dont have any gay friends and i wouldnt feel comfortable with my mates.

Really what im looking for is advice (especially since im on my own) from other peoples experiences and what i can expect going to a gay club. Cheers

I got dragged into a gay bar thing with some people from work. In the one I went in at least its like a normal bar, except there is a lot more camp men :|

The thing with gay bars is that the only difference is who you see getting affectionate with each other. Lots of the bars on the London scene are male-dominated and very cruise-y

Gay bars tend to have camp pop music or house music. Unfortunately if you want to pull a guy (that actually acts like a guy) a gay club might not be the best place to go. You do get "straight acting" gay guys in them but there's a lot more camp as tits queens :p

i've been to G-A-Y London that was great i got to see various people perform and i was even there when they did 'Porn Idol' one night lol granted the men were all minging lol :yuck: But i think G-A-Y is for straight and gay people HELL i had two straight guys chasing me all night there lol G-A-Y is great if you fancy dancing alot as there's different levels with different music.

My mate took me to a place called "Heaven" once and i didnt like it cos it was small, dingy and very claustophobic but apparently its a popular place for gay men though so if you like that kinda thing then go there :)

Don't really know soho that well apart from "Trash Palace" and the "Friendly Society" are cool places to sit and chill at, although they aren't really clubs jus bars.

I love Trash Palace! Hate G-A-Y except when there's a good PA (almost full of men) and Heaven, likewise. :yuck: Ghetto and Popstarz (same promoters as Trash Palace) are excellent, too. I think they're less cruise-y but that might be a bit of naivety on my part!

I've only been to Ghetto once, is that the one down a dirty alleyway? don't think i stayed there long :chin: where is Popstarz? I've been around Soho for a night out but i just followed everyone else as i didin't know where everything was lol.

I like the G-A-Y bar but not when its crowded lol i remember last year we all went there towards the end of the night when we were all wasted and we saw some girl from Hollyoaks and my mate went upto her and said "Hollyoaks is shite...but i like you!" LOL  she even agreed to have a photo taken with us lol happy days :p

Popstars is in Kings Cross in Scala. I've been there. The staff are mostly crazy transexuals, the crowd a mix of gay and straight.

Yes, I completely agree. I went to "Camp Attack" at G-A-Y with a gay friend and the place was full of "man tarts" (his word not mine).

It's at the Scala. Not act. a gay venue itself. There's also Sahara Nights and Central Station (or sth like that) near there, both gay.

oic so Popstarz is a "night" and not an everyday club :eek2: that explains it as my mate was talking about a "Popstarz" in m/c and when we went it wasn't on....lol and i presumed the "club" had moved lol

i really like gay clubs, my mate never pulls in them though.he prefers to go on the gaydar website to chat to men and then arranges to meet them a couple of days later.

i love gay clubs, i always have a fab time, and my best mate at uni is gay so he dont have to ask twice to go with him! but maybe u wud feel more comfortable going to a gay bar first, less pressure, can just sit in the corner, and do some eyeing up!! ;) but the gaydar aint a bad way to meet some friends, and then you dont have to worry about being alone.

Just out of interest, because I didn't want to start a new thread, what do people feel about gay bars and clubs having a gay / lesbian majority door policy? Is it fair? Too lenient? I'll give my 2p-worth later.

would it really be a gay night fi the majority of people there were straight girls :s

i found it easier to chat up the straight girls who go gay clubs than anything, normally because they think you're different for some strange reason :p

i can understand why they have them and i think they are a good idea, if they were more strictly enforced (which they aren't at all where i go - except when you get a big bunch of blatantly straight guys just going for the cheap night, the gay club i go to tends to have a set price on the door and then a free bar til 2am).

the point is that the establishment is a GAY one, straight people have plenty of other places to choose from (although obviously i'd be pissed off if they wouldn't let me in). i tend to go coz my friend doesn't really feel like he can be true to himself in straight clubs for fear of being beaten up. having a gay majority is alright and surely the point of a gay club anyway? and majority doesn't mean exclude everyone.

I went to Popstarz to see Skin (who was in Skunk Anansie) it was Ok, less shallow and bitchy than Canal Street and the music was actually OK (they played some indie, a little rock, heck they even played Le Tigre!)... But then if I wanted to go out and pull girls I'd probably go to a gay bar... But otherwise I won't go out of my way unless it's for a laugh.

    They are safe however.
