Golden Wonder going under
Crisp manufacturer Golden Wonder has been placed in administration, putting about 850 jobs at risk.

The firm, whose brands include Golden Wonder, Nik-Naks and Wheat Crunchies, has suffered falling sales and fierce competition in recent years

that bit of news has actually ruined my day so far :(
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

I'm just glad they're not the manufacturer of space raiders.

so am i, we buy them in bulk at work, well we used to at least, as the old manager used to go past a wholesalers on his way to work, and get very peckish

im more worried about wheat crunchies, no doubt Walkers will take on some of the larger names from GW tho.

get to your local spar, party box of 10p crisps, 40 bags in total, space raiders, tangy toms, quaterbacks, onion rings, those sort of things. 40 bags, £2.99

    Does that really exist?

God i hope so. I really love Space Raiders, but Transform-A-Snack are like the worst things ever.

I'm not surprised they're in administration, have you tasted their crisps recently? That and competing against the aggressive marketing of Walkers - I can't remember the last time I saw an advert for Golden Wonder.

What happened to KP crisps too? Never noticed them disappear. I used to like the pizza ones. And roast ox.

What do you expect they're made in scunthorpe....

As for KP, well they're part of United Biscuits now (i'm led to believe). Definately still on the go because Space Raiders and choc dips are still around.
Oh when the Grimsby factory closed and we stopped getting free crates of choc dips, that was the worst day of my life.

Space Raiders :yuck: Who eats them?

    My 8 year old.

I know about those, but I meant the actual potato crisps. Remember the ads with the KP friars (snort), or am I just really old?

They grow the potatoes for Golden Wonder in the fields behind my house, this news isn't good for the local farmers!
You can't do anything else with these potatoes, if you boil them they just fall apart and turn to mush. (someone tried to steal them from the field haha)

Some of Golden Wonder's strong brands will be taken over, no doubt. I think maybe they might survive themselves, there is talk of buyouts.

I'm sorry, I know I'm being a pedant, but Mr G, you do know that "wherefore" means "why", don't you? :p

Just thought I'd point that out. Back to the housework.

Nik-Naks have to be the most artificial of all the weird "crisps" that are out there. The mere idea of Scampi and Lemon flavoured crisps makes me feel mildly ill. Not that it stops me eating them when I'm hungover, of course! :p

Tudor crisps were the best as far as I'm concerned, but they disappeared without a trace years back. I miss their Ketchup flavoured ones...they shaped my childhood.
