    This is interesting. Your views?

What's interesting about that? The notion of Barroso as the most powerful man in the UK is clearly delusional.

All that poll demostrates is a worrying level of ignorance.

    And he is elected.

Who by? EU heads of commission are appointed in a horse trade between the various member states - not a whiff of the ballot box about it.

Certainly no vote in the Uk for him was there, yet he has some kind of power over our nation? bizzare!

Lots of people have power that no one voted for.

I was thinking more of the people with the real power - big business, banks etc.

Except the ballot box which put them into place.

I was careful to avoid suggesting that "the people" voted for him directly, but we do vote for the people who appointed him.

I'm still not sure why the expression "tyrant" was used though...

Because Born Slippy is quite partial about making completely irrelevant, bullshit statements out of thread titles when talking about something.

The 'Bob Geldolf set to join the Tories' thread title is another example.

Yes, but they are thankfully still slightly regulated in the UK. Nowhere near enough, and htey can still get away with murder, but hey. Welcome to Capitalism - we chose it, we get run by businesses.
