Dvd problem

My computer dvd player wont work. On powerdvd it brings up a funny looking error adn refuses to lpay it, on some other software for example windows media player, it plays it, just without sound. I've played D.V.D's in the past and its been fine, but now it ownt let me watch any of my xmas dvds! I even put an OLD dvd in to check it wasn't something weirdass about the new ons but thats not it.
Any ideas why this has happeend?

    Sounds like the player is broken.

    If it's not under warrenty you can pick up a replacement DVD player for like 20 quid or something.

    I thought it mgiht be, I just wanted to ask others opinions before i splashed out on a new one.
