splitting 'songs' up into tracks

is this do-able? i mean like say an album downloaded as one audio file, to split it into tracks?

    Yep. I can't remember what package I used, but I've done it a couple of times. I'm fairly sure I had to convert the track to a .wav file first, and then re-encode it afterwards.

    Will probably need a large amount of memory - it'll be a very slow process if your computer is constantly swapping out to the hard drive...

    You can create a .cue file that will set the points where you want the tracks to split and burn it to a cd-rw and it will burn the single audio file into tracks when it burns to disc. Re rip this disc and there you go.
