Playing music on PC

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi
I have a lot of music on my computer and I like to play it through the computer while I'm doing stuff online etc.
I am wondering if someone can recommend a good player to use to play the music. I want one that is simple to use, i can play through all my tracks on shuffle and i can also make playlists easily.
oh, and preferably one that I can get for free :P
I currently have musicmatch jukebox but i dont like it.
thanks heaps :D

I use RealPlayer, at least at home. I like it, and it's good for creating playlists, burning CDs etc.

But to be honest, I haven't really got a clue about that kind of thing :p

Musicmatch, Win Media Player, iTunes, Real Player - they're all complete shite.

Get Winamp as everyone else has said. It's by far the fastest, easiest to use and generally best-supported program there is.

I've been using it for about 6 years now and it's only ever crashed on me twice.

    Windows Media Player.

WinTramp is good, but it hates surround sound, and I refuse to use any version above 3.

I use version 5, it's absoulty fine and supports 5.1. WMP sucks and spys on it's users.

Windows Media Player sucks. I'd not touch it with a bargepole. Ever.

If you're running Windows, then as suggested, Winamp is about the best around, in my opinion. For films and so on, give BSPlayer a shot - it's great!

If you're running *nix, then Beep Media Player is the best there is :).

For films, I use Media Player Classic as it plays every single type of file there is pretty much, including .rm files.

Probably doesn't support surround sound but at least it doesn't have to search for damn codecs every ten minutes.

blaze media player is ok, not great though.

Windows media classic is great for video; as someone said no problem with videos. However, if we're talking music, nothing other than windows media player will do; if for no other reason than the amazing toolbar that lets you do all the basic stuff, while while minimized in the taskbar.

If you want something that is low on system resources, other than windows media classic, foobar is ok, but i've never really accepted it because of the lack of toolbar.

Winamp is only good for shoutcast.

or you could just get a decent keyboard and control music using that

How can anything with "Microsoft" on it be called "decent"? It's like saying "This book has really good voice acting".

the keyboard functions are ok, but most of the time i'm reading the screen and not using the keyboard so i find the controls in the taskbar are best!

And the keyboard controls work with WMP anyway.
