I'm looking at the cover in front of me. Just thinking about the movie makes me shiver. That move, by Spielberg, was one of the greatest movies i have ever seen IMO. I saw it in a spacious room - pitch black.

AAAAA.... it was good. :)

Anybody else seen it? Any comments?

The people? Tom Cruise and his family never died - but billions of other people did.

I thought it was alright, nowt special though. The way it ended was quite abrubt as I feel it should have been explained a bit more.

Nah, I didn't understand what killed the aliens. I needed that explained to me.

Oh yeah, the aliens. I think it had something to do with that main robot getting blown up by the grenade.

    Or the red fungi.

    Book = win
    Original Movie = more win
New Movies = lose, for not following the story.

Yes, I know - the ending was so disappointing. What really happened to the world after all those casualties?

Original is superior (obviously)...still scares me now, not to mention when i was a wee kiddy.

But in the defence of Spielbergs version: The alien "walkers" are a fine interpretation me thinks, especially that noise they make and the "death ray" - it worked for me. And obviously, the way films are made now allowed for bigger scope in set pieces (the plan landing on the house, the fighting at the front line, etc) which certainly have more of a wow factor than the original.

Top eye candy, but like most modern films (or rather, most remakes?), lacking in integrity.

PS - Dakota Fanning = give that girl an oscar. Yeah its a rough film but she makes the best of it.... and I Am Sam...come on!...just give her the damn gong already.

I liked it a lot. I didn't have any complaints about it that I remember. Except maybe the "ultra happy" ending, where the son is miraculously alive. I don't like sad endings, but let's not push it too far.

You should all listen to Jeff Wayne's rock opera, and then get back to me. The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one!

This film had Tom Cruise in it. Therefore it is officially bad.

I've got the Jeff Wayne's version on cd, its good and is much more like the actual book by HG Wells.

I find it more scary in a way, then the film, as it lets your mind creates its own images of what is happening.

I saw it sometime this month or last on Digital Versatile Disk I purcheshed from my local ASDA supermercado. It was most enjoyable even though few of my chums though it was like cheese that was old and mouldy.
