Drug help in London

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi...

I'm trying to get help kicking my various addictions (mostly heroin).

I'm moving to London soon, and I'm looking for agencies who can help me get my life straight.

I just don't want to slide back into becoming a heavy user again.

A girl I go round with has suggested an organisation called Turning Point.

Can someone tell me what they're like or suggest some other places for help?

Yep, talk to the good people at Release, they'll help and and be able to put you in touch with social services as well.

Hi there, I looked in the local advice finder on this site and did a search for London, and it found 157 results for drug and alcohol services in London. If you know where you are going to be, you can narrow down your search by putting in the postcode.

But as above, if you give Release a call they will provide you with expert advice and you will be able to find out about all your options. Good luck with it.

You can do a search on the Drugscope site here

Turning Point have a good rep, most services are borough specific though, so it depends where you'll be. The Hungerford in Soho are a good project though, not borough specific afaik

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the advice.

    I'm moving to Hackney.

As I'm unemployed, I've been advised to contact a Progress To Work adviser through whichever jobcentre I sign on at.

What can they do for me that others can't?

Progress 2 Work is a government sponsored initiative outsourced to different organisations in different areas, to help people with a history of substance misuse gain access to education, training and employment. They have specialist knowledge of the problems faced by people in recovery from addictions and don't push you to take any old job like the jobcentre so often do. In Hackney its Working Links who have the P2W contract, I'll PM you their number.
