I can't remember which version it was but I saw one video, in fact, I think I've got it at home, where there's not set and all the cast just sit at the back of the stage and sit down and stand up when needed. Really interesting production and it's an amazing musical aswell.

Master of the House brought the house down.

It's the 10th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall, so it's got the orchestra and cast live but no set as such. They're all in costume though.

The film version is shit in comparison (imho), but you can also get that from Amazon.

If you're looking for a version of the book in film then there's obviously a huge number of versions (from the first adaption in 1909 right through the 1917, 1925, 1934, 1952, 1958, 1967, three versions in the 80's, a load of miniseries, animated versions and the adaption of the musical)

The most recent dramatic adaption was the Liam Neeson version -

Previous to that the version you'd most likely to of seen would be the UK TV version with Anthony Perkins as Javert -
    http://imdb.com/title/tt0077936/

You can get it on DVD in the USA, though it's missing 30 minutes of footage -

As for the musical you've got the already mention 10 year celebration recording for the Royal Albert Hall, available just about anywhere, though it's a performance of the songs - not a filming of the actual musical. There's a 2 disc version out -

What isn't available is a filming of the actual musical - though I guess there's always London for that.
