But being a lumpen proletarian, I'm having some trouble
Any suggestions of quality pieces would be appreciated.
Nothing too overheard (flight of the bumblebee sort of stuff) but flowing, preferably dramatic, grand and/or uplifting.
Oh yeah...and I have Oh Fortuna already :thumb: .

As for suggestions, I have a few. You can get them from HMV, who are probably the best of the chains for classical music, as their classical albums are quite cheap.
Verdi - Requiem.
Dvorak - New World Symphony
Barber - Agnus Dei. This is a version of his Adagio for Strings (very well known, William Orbit mixed it a few years ago), but it is done completely by voice. Brilliant, but well known.
Faure - Pavane
Elgar - Cello Concerto
And for a lesser-known modern piece, I highly recommend Zbigniew Preisner's Requiem For My Friend. Preisner is well-known for film compositions (he composed the music for the Three Colours films) but the requiem he wrote isn't. It's gorgeous.
All this stuff is well-known, but the decent stuff often is.
" " - Mephisto Waltz no. 2
" " - Liebestraume no. 3 in A flat 'O Lieb'
Rachmaninoff - Piano Concertos no. 2 + 3
Grieg - Piano Concerto in A minor
Mozart - Clarinet Concerto
" - The Marriage of Figaro
Gabriel Faure - Requiem
JS Bach - St. John Passion
John Rutter - Collected Works
Just some things to keep you going.
