HDD won't format into NTFS

Teh_GerbilTeh_Gerbil Posts: 13,332 Born on Earth, Raised by The Mix
As above, it'll do FAT32... but not NTFS, any idea why? Its a 25gb Fujitsu and its pissing me off. Got a 15gb Western Digital that is the same. Are some drives not NTFS-able? Becuae i've done older drives in NTFS, like old 2gb ones... so why not these newish ones?

How are you trying to format it? Is it a slave drive and you're trying to format it using the Windows tools, or are you installing an OS from scratch and trying to format it that way?

Try opening the command prompt and typing 'diskpart' and working through it from there, maybe that could offer a different solution?

I've used it a few times, pretty straight forward.

Out of interest, whats the error message it's giving you when you try and format it to NTFS?

"Unable to complete format" I think.
I'll try command, it can be good.

Never know, could give you a bit more info at the prompt. Let us know if it's still giving jip.

When Windows fails, command tools are the way!

NTFS is more fussy about errors.
