Me thinks someone missed the point.

It isn't school busses shipping people in that needed, it finding ways to get teachers out and ways of motiviating those from poorer background to see education as a way out of poverty. Then make sure that it really is a way out and that you aren't going to saddle kids with massive debts, for example.

Choice only helps those who have the time and money to force the choice.

Its a rubbish concept, if some state schools are failing, dont bus the kids elsewhere fix the bloody problem school!

Wouldn't it be much simpler to remove all licences/professional requirements that allow certain professions have a closed shop?

That way your average bloke wouldn't need to spend pointless years learning stuff that's tangential to their work, and could spend more time learning what is relevant.

Of course, "education" is mandatory in the uk, as it is in all collectivist countries, so there is no choice at all. Classic double bind from a government body and another set of false choices, just like voting and all the rest of it.

So general knowledge is a bad thing?

Not at all. Using violence or threats to make children gain it is.

So true. It's such a lazy and illogical attempt at a solution.

There would be some justification if our schools were funded locally like in America; which means that schools in wealthier areas get more money and resources. Although that does still happen here, although not to the extent that it does in America improving poor state schools seems the only way to improve education overall rather than trying to cram people into the decent state schools.
