i don't take supplements btw, but I am worried about legislation appearing in the US to ban them, I mean what's that about......
but that will never happen, because the simple fact it is not's as profitable to produce nutritional food as it is to dump chemicals on everything and ship it out.........agri-business is big business these days, and it's not just this country, it's common practice in most industrialised countries....
The Consumers Association are for this restriction because it means health food suppliers can't pass crap off as healthy and nutritious. But I do worry that companies will be put out of business because of the legislation, and that people should have the choice to buy what they want.
I personally fall more on the side of the CA. People are free to buy what they want, but if companies want to sell things then they need to say what is in it and why, scientifically, it is good for you.
Aye I can see the point about protecting fuckwits from buying mothballs to eat "because they are good for you" according to some snake oil salesmen. A bit like the myths farming has spread about milk being good for you etc.
Of course they should, but a better idea might have been to set up a body to investigate every food producers products and give subjective advice against them all.
Problem with that is who funds "scientific" research? Every quack remedy has some "Doctor" endorsing it. It's not difficult to become a doctor, you just print a certificate and get someone to sign it. Equally big buisiness is well known for fudging results, paying for slanted research etc so it's not a very good way to go IMO.
annual deaths due to vitamins - 0
annual deaths due to amino acids - 0#
annual deaths due to commercial herbal products - 0
On the other hand, what's the fatality rates of some well known drugs?
hmmmmmm.
So it appears that something completely harmless is being outlawed. Pathetic.
Even if it's only the placebo effect that helps people, they should be provided. As RIchard Bandler says - "Placebos work 1 time in 7 so if you have a headache - take 8"
