Just seen a documentary on some US teenagers that paid homless people to fight so they could catch it on tape and sell it..
The teenagers made over $1.5 million from video sales the guy they sold the copyright to made over $6 million
http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/bumfights.html
following the video over 30 copy cats did their own video, and in one case they ended up kill one homeless man in Australia by setting his shelter on fire
What's sick is that these people are allowed not only make these videos but then easily sell them.

Though I disagree with how they scammed the original idea.
PLus the bums are happy to fight for the money...so whats your moral high ground?
But its that way of the world currently. Anyone who makes money is ok, you can probably buy yourself out of htat bother.
Its a bit sick. Lets give the poor guns and watch them fight instead.
Oh, they are alredy in Iraq doing that.
Why do you think its cool? Do you really think the "bums" enjoy fighting for money? Don't you think that they might actually be desperate? Don't you think its degrading?
True enough it's degrading Blagsta, and I'd like to knock some sense into the kids involved, but the 'bums' in the grip of their addictions decided to fight for cash - I wouldn't get between a man and his favourite vice.
I've seen Bumfights 1/2/3 & also seen the stuff about when they went to court. Rufus Hannah suffered quite a few injuries as did Donald Brennan. As for them being given money to fight which is true (plus beer & food), most of the times the tramps were intoxicated and so couldn't give real consent. There were also times where they were forced into doing things, the bums didn't get any real money apart from a few bucks here and there.
I cannot see how they didn't get add up for kidnapping because "Bum Hunter" (a piss take of Steve Irwin) would run up to sleeping bums and tape their mouths up on some and use cable ties to tie their hands and feet up. On one they done the above but this time chuicked him in a car, drove off leaving him in a desert type place in a about an inch of water. One bloke who helped make the film also helped some guy rob this woman walking down the street.
Anyone who offers money to a desperate homeless person if they agree to pull a tooth out with a pair of pliers for the camera deserves to be beaten half to death and spend 6 months in intensive care.
I think it is a disgrace, but that's what happens. There is consent therefore it is legal, no matter how morally dubious the consent really is.
It's easy to see where the craze for happy slaping comes from though.
really morally dubious and praying on people brokness, but loads of things do that
I was shown a short bit of this by some Romanians I know and they thought this was a big hit show in the US and that it was acceptable there.
speaking to some of the new chinese students in my halls last year
people think in the west, it really is like tv shows etv here like we meet a stranger save their lives from drug dealers or something and have sex with them
Absolutely terrible.
As has been mentioned - in many cases these homeless people were also Alcoholics and the producers offered them not just money but drinks to fight, .. if they're drunk then their ability to consent and even feel pain (and thus know when they're doing themselves serious damage to themselves or others) when fighting will have been comprimised
The fact the law in the USA allows them to get away with it is sick and the movies where they attack people in their sleep and film it is even sicker, I'm surprised none of the homless people slept with a knife and killed any of the film makers after being jumped on in the dark. I don't even see how that is legal as they only get consent after the incident has taken place.
