What is the best form/combination of contraception do you think? just wondered, coz i'm a virgin, but getting kinda close to thinking about sleeping with my b/f...
It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

I've not lost my mind it's inserted elsewhere - hence the limp.
Not getting caught is only half the fun!!
I'm the rest!!
At http://www.thesite.org/sex/pregnancy/contraceptive_innovations.html
the second on the list is the Merena IUS (intra-uterine system). This is the form of contraception which I use, and it is fantastic!
The best side effect I have had from this IUS is that I used to bleed very heavily for 10 days, it took about three months for my bleeding to regulate with the Mirena but now I have three day periods with very little blood, if at all.
Aparently this is because one of the ways it works is by thinning the uterine lining so that the fertilised egg can't implant. The amount of hormone is 1/7 the amount in the pill because it is delivered directly to the lining & doesn't go through the blood system like the hormones in the pill have to.
Because the amount of hormones is lower, the potential side effects experienced by pill users are reduced.
It is more effective than the pill, even though there is less hormone introduced to your body, it has a failure rate of 1 in 1000 over the course of a year as opposed to 10 in a thousand for a normal coil, 20 per 1000 for the pill & 10-15 for the Depot Provera injection.
I just found most of this information from http://www.womens-health.co.uk/mirena.htm
where it also says that because of the hormone content the stem needs to be slightly wider & in their words This can occasionally lead to difficulties with fitting, especially if you have not had a baby before. In this situation, it would be helpful to use some local anaesthetic
So there you are, the Mirena can also be used if you've never been pregnant.
They also say that because of the continuous supply of hormone it has been shown to reduce PMS (if caused by fluctuating hormones throughout the month).
As I said, it is fantastic, but sadly under publicised because of it's cost. It's around £100, but it lasts for 5 years. (It can be removed easily if necessary).
Having said all that, it's probably now a good idea to go for the coil as your first form of contraception. I'd go for the pill & a condom first, I think.

PS, I copied this from a post I made a while back, just in-case it just gave anyone Deja Vu lol
I had a life once, but I stopped feeding it so one day it just walked away.

If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.
if its a long term sexual relationship, then i would also recommend some other form of birth control, like j9 said, or the depo-provera injections burnout_girl suggested in another post (errr somewhere!!), or the pill, combined or otherwise. i think if youre goig to carry on having sex then you should go and talk to your doctor about the options available.
If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.
i will make him wear a condom too. to prevent transmitted diseases more than anything, you may trust him but you can't trust the other girls he has went with (if any.) besides, i think the boys should always have some responsibility when it comes to birth control than leave it all to the girls, so not fair.
goodluck!!
