Government of the people by the people for the people?

Throughout the history Man has sacrificed a lot to defend and glorify the interests of the societies above and beyond the selfish interests of the individuals. But in the last few decades the NEW "Multi-National Corporations" model has replaced that ancient and traditional model. In this new model each entity is only interested to maximize its own bottom line regardless of its impact on the society or on the environment. These Corporations do emphasis; do NOT bother us with taxation or regulations; because those are burdens that reduce our profits. In this model, the solidarity which bonded all members of the society has been broken. In this model the Multi-National Corporations are setting the terms simply because they hold all the power. There is no guess work; operating with that kind of power. In nineteen century England used to play similar power game with their colonies; "Head I win, Tail you lose."

Elizabeth Warren, Economist, Law Professor at Harvard University, and her daughter Emilia Warren Tyagi, in their book entitled: "Two-Income Trap" has given detailed statistics changes for Middle Class in the United States since 1970s. They showed how economic well being of the Middle Class has been degenerated and the Middle Class is facing serious financial hardship.
If you examine the economic situation of the Multi-National Corporations for the same period you can see clearly how the NEW economical policies have favored them at the expense of the Middle Class and the Poor. And the trend continues with much faster paste.

Then you would wonder what happened to the "Government of the people by the people for the people."
How could anybody claim the US Government is for the people?

the americans dont have the monopoly there, this country is just as bad, as is canada, as is pretty much all other "democratic" countries, democracy has evolved into something not quite democratic. it isnt government for the people, its power for the politician, thats all they care about anymore. i know people love to dump on the states, but you cant put this one one there door, most western democracies are the same

The way we are boosting our democracy all over the world, I thought we needed to abide to one man one vote.

We do understand how the politic functions in Washington.
Is bribery part of the democracy?

another American socialist, good, it'll be nice having someone posting in a somewhat similar time zone. :)

the problem isn't with corporations, it's with the rights they are afforded. Corporations serve as a great service to society when they are kept in check by legislation. This is next to impossible to do these days mostly due to a Supreme Court decision in 1886 which stated that corporations qualified as citizens. I wouldn't be surprised (and i know i am going out on a limb here) is similar decisions have been made in other republics as well.

"The Land Of The Free". A name is jsut that, A name, it need bear no relevance to the thing itself. See: The DDR.

Democracy is a good idea until it gets too advanced. Then, it becomes a farce as it ends up being left unchecked.

In a Capitalist world, corporations are essential. But yes, it is also essential they are kept in check, otherwise your freedoms and choice stop existing. See: Microsoft. General Motors (They are taking over now. Ford is failing :/ ).

Oh well, the USA is still more Democratic than the UK!

Government of the people by the people for the people?

The following is part of my discussion at:
    http://forum.cygnus-study.com/showthread.php?t=8937

. . . you need to grasp the next line very carefully. The underlying powers responsible for these campaigns are the same! It does not matter how she manifest herself; US troops or UK troops, or God forbids the Iraqi's insurgencies.

The 1997 Yugoslavia war was won ONLY by air power. The objectives of that war were achieved ONLY by the US planes and US missiles. POOR Yugoslavians, the US military campaign pushed back a prosperous Simi-Communist country to the rank of the other liberated communist countries of the Eastern Europe. So we should learn there is no prosperity under Socialism. But china is a new game! US corporations allowed china to prosper only under the capitalist rule, which is driven only by PROFIT without any regards to the people and the environment.

Sadam and Iraq situation is similar to Slobodan Milosevic and Yugoslavia, but in Iraq US Might have showed so many deficiencies in ALL ASPECTS of the operations that defy any logic.

It is too ignorant to assume that the US military planers did not devise any plan for occupation after US troops reached to Baghdad. "Oh, the victory came too quick that we did not anticipated the consequences!" Any layman person could easily predict the victory of US military (Let's say "ALLIED FORCES" to make Amen-Moses happy!) over Sadam troops as a sure thing. Now US military who were planning the invasion for over a year, did not have any plan for the occupation? We might as well be a mute to absorb that explanation.

Democracy comes in two versions; Regular and Untidy.
The Regular version of Democracy it brings law, order, improvements, prosperity, and unity and cooperation between all forces. The example of this version would be democracy for Germany, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Qatar, and so on.
The Untidy version of Democracy it brings anarchy, destructions, harassment, humiliations, and so on.
There is no question that the democracy in Iraq is the "Untidy version". I am not making up this; This is what Donald Rumsfeld said regarding the anarchy and looting in Iraq: "Democracy is Untidy", Rumsfeld commented; Under Democracy people are FREE, so they are allowed to commit some mischiefs!

Why did US policy makers choose to bring "Untidy Democracy" to Iraq? If they had brought the "Regular Democracy" to Iraq then there would have NOT been so many deaths and destructions in Iraq, and ALLIED forces would have enjoyed a glorious victory and ALL THE PEOPLE would have been happy. Are we supposed to believe that such bright, talented, smart, and professional policy makers made such a miserable mistake? Was this the first time that US forces were attempting such an invasion that they got off guarded by the turn of events?

Under the scare of "War on Terror" US Government and Corporations are actively helping to export the well paying American Jobs to China and India and undermining the well fare of the American Workers and the Americans' neighborhoods. If Chinese and Indians are producing cheaper products, that is fine, more power to them to elevate their livelihood. But why should the US Government spend money to destroy the well paying American Jobs in order to provide better opportunity for the foreign competitions. How do you define traitors? Three decades ago US Government were prosecuting the industrial espionage, to protect the American industry. US complained cheap Japanese imports were destroying American Jobs and US negotiated to stop that Threat. Now, US government herself provides funds for transfer of Jobs to oversea! Please help me out here I can not comprehend this! How could Government of the people works against the people?

In 1990s the computer and internet were the inexpensive tools that helped to facilitate the health care research and the implementation of the health care applications. But despite of such inexpensive and powerful tools between 1999 and 2004 heath care premiums in US doubled. There was no major costly new treatment or expensive procedures that could be attributed for such surge in the health care premiums except for the US Corporations' dirty games. Now, high cost of health care in US is one of the major factors for US jobs Out-Sourcing! The planners of these policies are very smart.

Yes we are calling our system a democracy. But are we governed by "one man one vote"?
In democracy is it allowed to bribe the elected officials? If that is OK, then this will be the government of the rich, and you can forget about "one man one vote".

    What? Come again?

Democracy is the freedom to elect our leaders. Is that nothing more than electing a dictator for four years? Eh? Does he not have the power to do as he wishe with that country? He could even make it a dictatorship by cancelling the elections, could he not?
