The YMCA - slavemasters of the 21st century?

It appears that the YMCA have agreed to run a compulsory labour scheme for "failed asylum seekers" (in particular those who come from countries deemed too dangerous to be deported back to, and those who are stateless, and those too ill to travel) under Section 10 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 2004.
Section 10 has been condemned by the Joint Committee on Human Rights of the House of Lords/House of Commons in its Fourteenth Report of Session 2003-04. In essence the criticism is one of slave labour. In particular the report attacks the section as being in breach of Article 4(2) of the European Convention of Human Rights (prohibition of forced labour), of Article 3 (prohibition on inhuman or degrading treatment) and of Article 14 (no discrimination on grounds of nationality).

Camapiagn against Immigration slavery

The new regulations are strongly remiscint of the old Poor Laws, and even those who are infected by an irrational fear of asylum seekers should be able to see that this is the thin end of the wedge, forced labour for meagre benefits - and a threat to basic jobs, as local authoritites and NGOs save money by taking on slaves instead of workers.

Community Service of this nature has generally been handed to people convicted of criminal acts ............

I can't find any main stream coverage of this - heres another article which reveals the YMCAs plans ekklesia

The only place for failed asylum seekers is in detention or on a plane out of the UK!

It seems a strange set of circumstances where asylum applications are rejected but they still cannot be returned because the native country is too dangerous!

    This is patently ridiculous.........
