Annoying problem with my PC

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Every now and again, my PC will freeze and I'll be left unable to do anything. Then a box pops and says "DrWatson Post Mortem Debugger has encounted a problem and needs to close" You know the box I mean, right?

Well anyway, what the hell is DrWatson PostMortem DeBugger? The only I've managed to get my PC working again is to restart. I've done the usual virus, spyware scans etc. and everythings clean, so what the hell is the problem? Any help appreciated.

Sounds like spyware or even a virus.

    http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Run it, save a log and post the log here, just copy and paste it.

Also, try an online virus scan

LOL @ Dr Watson "Post Mortem" !!

I've known of the Dr Watson for years because of Windows NT4. When did the program adopt that post mortem bit?

Dude, you've got NewDotNet spyware. Try and uninstall it in add/remove programs, and get rid of the traces in HJT.

As another performance-related tip (but not spyware):

Remove the entries that contain Realsched (Real Player), Qttask (Quicktime) and anything that begins with ATI (graphics card). The applications will remain on the hard drive, but they're not required to start up every time Windows start. The RAM that is being taken up by those programs are better used for other programs, or to speed things up.

Yes. On your HJT list, see the entries containing the words: Realsched, Qttask and ATI. Get rid of those.
