Being senior year one gets a week off in December to write a 15 page assignment about a theme in one's subject of choice.
So far I know that I am writing in Social Studies, and covering the development in the Arab countries, and the consequences of said development.

Have found a UN report from 2002/2003 (can't remember) about this, but I was wondering if anyone here would know of other publications concerning the subject, preferably made by the EU, or of websites where it could be useful to do a search?

The World Bank has vast numbers of detailed economic reports on regions and specific countries, and can be considered to be independant.

You might want to also get the reports from the countries themselves and see how they compare.

Perhaps another third party report? Your governments figures on various countries, or EU reports, NATO even, though they're more military. Also try getting reports out of China or Japan, as their likely to have a slightly different viewpoint. Bias is always interesting to comment on.

It sounds like the sort of reports that you would find most helpful are probably not in the public domain. Specialist newspapers often make interesting reading on subjects like this.
    Try The Economist

My brother does the 'dear economist' in that. Very funny.

Admitadly much will not be totally public, maybe you could comment on why it isn't. The world bank should be easy enough, as should UN and EU reports on economy.

Whoa, blast from the past. Welcome back. Not even sure if you remember me. I just remember you and MoK discussing the difference between Kentish Man, and Man of Kent.

So far I have some articles from Danish broadsheets, and will look into "The Econimists", "Time Magazine" and "Newsweek".

The UN report mentioned states that half of the Arabic youth are willing to leave their country in order to pursue a life in the western world.
Based on that I will comment on why that is, which means going into the ruling system(s) in the Arab world, economy, groupings within the population - which leads on to how and why the situation is how it is, and a guess (made by analysists) on how the development will continue. As a discussion, I will take up the issue of the hatred towards the west, and yet how this contradicts the want to pursue a life in the west.

A Kentish man is born north and west of the river Medway. A Man of Kent is born east and south of the same.

Sounds like an interesting project. Note, though, that it's not strictly that they hate the West per se, just hate the West's involvement in what they see as Arab affairs. And clearly the half the population who want to pursue a life in the West are different from those who hate the West.

Might be worth reading a bit about Islam too.

Islam will play a part. I have an article about 3 branches of Islam, which blames the West for promoting the radical/extremist Muslim, when knocking down the moderate/progressive regimes which have existed.

The assignment week has just started (today at 12).
Have moved my focuse to Saudi Arabia and the double face of hardcore Islamic interpretation while being in strong alliance with the US.

Anyone knows of credible links about Wahabbism? Have enough books (15+, as well as endless of articles), but varied sources won't hurt.

    Thanks :)

Check some of the articles posted on this site. You probably won't agree with or like their politics but they are an excelent source of 'other' outlooks on islam.
